The absconding Sanghvi brothers Kripesh and Jigar, partners of the 1Above resto-bar in the Kamala Mills compound which caught on fire on December 29, were arrested in Bandra by the police on Wednesday night. The third owner, Abhijeet Mankar was arrested on Thursday morning.

Kripesh, Jigar and their third partner Abijit Mankar went underground on December 29 after the police charged them with culpable homicide not amounting to murder for the fire that spread through 1Above, killing 14 persons due to lack of fire preparedness.

According to police sources, they received inputs on the whereabouts of the Sanghvi brothers when they were interrogating Juhu resident Vishal Karia who was arrested on Tuesday for sheltering the trio.

Joint commissioner of police (law and order) Deven Bharti said that after they came to know that the Sanghvi brothers would be meeting a senior lawyer in Bandra, they laid a trap.

"We got to know that the brothers were in Bandra (West). We laid a trap and caught them when they came to an eatery to meet someone," a police officer said.

The two managers of 1Above have applied for bail, pleading that they had risked their lives to rescue the guests and had no role to play in any violation of rules.

The massive fire that spread through the Kamala Mills compound on December 29 reportedly started from the 1Above restro-bar which had added encroachments to its area. Post-mortem results of the 14 victims found that they were killed due to suffocation and not flames, as they were not able to escape from the restro-bar in time.
