Actor-politician Kamal Haasan, currently in Delhi to complete the formalities of registering his newly formed political party Makkal Needhi Maia (MNM) with the Election Commission of India, on Thursday met with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The visit took place a day after Haasan met with Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday.

The MNM founder Haasan not meeting with any other political leaders during his trip to Delhi has led to speculations of an alliance with the Congress, however, he rejected the rumours, saying that it is 'too early' to talk of an alliance.

"More than them being leaders, they are one family. I met the son yesterday... and met the mother (today)," said Kamal Haasan, after meeting Sonia Gandhi.

"We (only) discussed the political situation in Tamil Nadu ... it as a general talk," he said, insisting that it was "still too early" to speak of any tie-up between his party and the Congress.

Since the beginning, Kamal Haasan has made it clear of his aversion to 'saffron' and has met with multiple non-BJP parties, even attending the swearing in of Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy in Bengaluru amidst a show of Opposition strength.

Haasan also met with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) head, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal before announcing the launch of his own political party. The actor-turned-politician mentioned that a meet with Kejriwal was not possible during this trip to Delhi as Kejriwal was on a 10-trip to Bengaluru.
