Jammu & Kashmir: Security Forces Kill 5 Militants In Encounters In Shopian District

The security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday gunned down 4 terrorists in an encounter in the Shopian district of the state.  The forces had gunned down a Lashkar operative named Umar Malik on Friday.

Police and army personnel had launched a joint operation after receiving a tip-off on a militant presence in the village on Friday evening. A militant killed later that night was identified as Lashkar commander Umar Malik.

Jammu & Kashmir SP, Shesh Paul Vaid wrote on Twitter, "4 more bodies of terrorists visible at encounter site kiloora Shopian taking the total to 5 terrorists killed. Good Job boys , good for peace."

The spokesperson of the army while confirming the incident told the media, “Weapons have been recovered from the encounter site and the operation is still underway.”

“Four more militants have been killed at Shopian. A total of five militants have been killed so far,” he added further.

He also said that the identities of the four dead militants are yet to be established. The operations have brought the kill count to around 9 in the last three days.

According to media, two local militants and a soldier were killed in a joint operation launched by Army and police personnel in north Kashmir’s Sopore area on Friday. Two more militants were killed in Kupwara the previous day

Two suspects have were apprehended with 2 hand grenades in Srinagar's Pantha Chowk on Friday by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation Group (SOG). Suspect along with recovery were handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir police.
