Jain Monk Tarun Sagar Dies At Age 51, PM Modi Pays Tribute

Jain Monk Tarun Sagar died on Saturday at Delhi's Radhapuri Jain temple after a prolonged battle with Jaundice disease. He was 51 years old.

Born in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district on June 26, 1967, Sagar's original name was Pawan Kumar Jain. He had huge followers in the Jain community. 

On the demise of Jain Muni, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Deeply pained by the untimely demise of Muni Tarun Sagar Ji Maharaj. We will always remember him for his rich ideals, compassion and contribution to society. His noble teachings will continue inspiring people. My thoughts are with the Jain community and his countless disciples.”

Congress party has tweeted, "Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Jain Muni Tarun Sagar Ji Maharaj earlier today. His teachings and principles will continue to guide us on the right path. In this moment of loss, our prayers go out to his followers and devotees."

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "Pained to hear the sad demise of Muni Tarun Sagar Ji Maharaj. His teachings and ideals will always inspire humanity."

BJP president Amit Shah tweeted, "Saddened to learn about the untimely demise of Muni Tarun Sagar Ji Maharaj. He had devoted his entire life for the welfare of the society. In him, we have lost a noble preacher of peace and humanity. My deepest condolences with his countless followers in this hour of grief."

At the age of 14, Sagar left his home and took religious training in Chhattisgarh. Sagar was someone who was respected by top political leaders including PM Narendra Modi, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

His last rites will be performed in Uttar Pradesh's Muradnagar.
