The Indian Premier League (IPL) matches scheduled at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will now be held in Pune's Maharashtra Cricket Association’s International Stadium, media reported on Thursday.

The state administration expressed inability to ensure adequate security arrangements for the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in Chennai where protests are going on, demanding setting up of a Cauvery Water Management board.

"The matches had to be shifted out of Chennai as police had said that they were unable to provide security in the prevailing situation. CSK is not averse to shifting base to Pune," IPL Governing Council chairman Rajeev Shukla said.

Committee of Administrator (CoA) chief Vinod Rai told PTI that the prevailing situation has forced them to explore options and thus, BCCI from four short-listed cities finalised Pune for the matches, since CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is familiar with the conditions having played two seasons with Rising Pune Supergiants.

Reacting to the Supreme Court's judgement on the Cauvery Water River sharing, protests have been going on in the state of Tamil Nadu, with certain organisations calling for a ban on IPL matches scheduled to be played in Chennai.

T Velmurugan of Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi submitted a request to the Chennai Police Commissioner asking him to ensure the IPL match does not take place on April 10 until Cauvery Mangement Board is formed but the match was held as scheduled.

Even Superstar Rajinikanth made his views public on the issue. He said, “If the matches are not stopped, the CSK team should wear black bands. The BCCI and the proprietors of CSK must allow the players to do so.”
