INX Media Case: Delhi HC Extends Interim Protection To P Chidambaram Till Sept 28

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday extended the interim protection from arrest to former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram till September 28, following his plea seeking an anticipatory bail in the INX Media case.

Justice A K Pathak, whom the matter was put before has asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file a reply within four weeks.

In response, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the court that it has already filed its reply in the case.

Senior advocates Dayan Krishnan, Pramod Kumar Dubey, Ramesh Gupta and Mohit Mathur appeared for Chidambaram.

Earlier on July 3, the court had granted interim protection to Chidambaram till August 1.

The extension was granted as the CBI had failed to file a reply in the case and requested more time to reply.

The senior Congress leader has been under investigation in the Rs. 3,500-crore Aircel-Maxis case and the Rs. 305-crore INX Media case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had accused Karti of taking illegal kickbacks from INX Media to get it Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to receive funds from abroad worth Rs 305 crore in 2007 during the regime of the Congress-led UPA government when his father P Chidambaram was the finance minister

Earlier, the Delhi Court had granted two months to the CBI and the ED to obtain the necessary sanction to prosecute in the Aircel-Maxis case till October 1.
