Union Minister and BJP leader Babul Supriyo has often landed in controversies, and sparked another controversy on Tuesday when he threatened to break a leg of an audience member disrupting his speech at an event for differently-abled persons in his constituency of Asansol in West Bengal.

The singer-turned-politician Supriyo's statements were caught on camera, and the video has since gone viral.

Supriyo had been felicitating a man identified as Ghanshyam Ram when someone from the audience disrupted his speech, agitating the BJP leader who asked if the man had any problem.

“What happened brother? Do you have any problem? I can break one of your legs and hand you a crutch,” said Supriyo to the man directly.

He further told his security personnel, “If he moves from this spot, break one of his legs, I will give him a stick,” and asked the audience to clap for the man.

Supriyo had been invited at the Samajik Adhikarita Shivir event organised to donate wheelchairs and other equipment for the differently-abled people.

In March this year, Supriyo was booked by West Bengal police violating prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC and under Sections 146, 147, 148 (rioting) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), a non-bailable offence, when he attempted to visit his constituency of Asansol after Ram Navami clashes.

In response, Supriyo lodged a counter FIR against IPS officer Rupesh Kumar at the Asansol South police station, alleging Kumar of assaulting him.
