In an explosive blast by IED device in north Kashmir’s Sopore, four policemen lost their lives whereas two policemen have reportedly sustained severe injuries on Saturday. The combustible IED device was planted by the militants near a shop in a lane between the 'Chotta Bazaar' and 'Bada Bazaar' in town.

The area was in the view of a separatist-sponsored strike due to which policemen were patrolling when the blast ripped through the Sopore market area. The injured have been rushed to the hospital while Police has started the search operation.

On Saturday, Separatists had called for a protest shutdown and a march in the town. In wake of the separatist-called protest shutdown, heavy security forces have been deployed in Sopore to maintain law and order in the town.

Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed her grief over the uncalled incident and offered condolences to the murdered cops’ families. She tweeted, "Pained to hear that four policemen have been killed in an IED explosion in Sopore. My deepest condolences to their families."
