In an interesting turn of events, a cab driver in Hubballi - Naveen was slapped with a Rs 100 fine for not wearing a helmet. The incident took the driver by surprise as he was driving a four-wheeler.

It was around 10 pm when a police personnel stopped Naveen and asked him to produce his documents. Even after showing all the documents, the cab driver was slapped with a Rs 100 fine, that too for not wearing a helmet.

On questioning the police officer about the absurdity of this fine, the policeman allegedly started abusing.

"The policeman started abusing me and insisted that I pay the fine. I told him that I had all the documents and that I drive for an app-based cab company which ensures all the documents are in place," said the cab driver.

Sharing the October 7 incident near Chennamma Circle, Naveen said, "The police did not heed to my requests. He initially asked for about Rs 500 but when I refused to pay up, he fined me for Rs 100."

"When I saw the bill I was shocked to see that he had fined me for not wearing a helmet with the car number KA 25 D 2271 mentioned in the chalan,” Naveen added.

The traffic police officer who is believed to have executed this fine is believed to be from the North Traffic police station. Police Commissioner of Hubballi-Dharwad, M N Nagaraj has said that he will look into the matter.

He said, "If the police officer has taken any bribe, it is punishable. I will check with the police station concerned."

While the incident may be surprising for many people, this is not the first time a car driver has been fined for not wearing a helmet. However, the earlier incidents were caused due to technical reasons.
