Home Ministry Approves Nearly Rs 3,000 Crore Bill For Women Security In 8 Cities

In an order to strengthen the women security in the country, the home ministry has approved a nearly Rs 3,000 crore bill under a special women safety programme, media reported on Sunday.

The women safety project will be implemented in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Lucknow till 2021.

The programme proposal amounting to Rs 2,919.55 crore was approved under the Nirbhaya Fund set up in 2013.

Under the programme, public panic buttons and all-women police patrol teams will be launched in eight major cities.

According to reports, the highest Rs 663.67 crore has been sanctioned for national capital New Delhi, Rs 425.06 crore for Chennai, Rs 252 crore for Mumbai, Rs 181.32 crore for Kolkata, Rs 253 crore for Ahmedabad, Rs 282.50 crore for Hyderabad, Rs 667 crore for Bengaluru, and Rs 195 crore for Lucknow.

The project is aimed at strengthening women security by adopting a mix of solutions as per the requirements. The all-women patrol teams such as SHE-teams and Abhayam vans will ensure a quick and effective response system under this women safety project.

The security measures to be taken under this programme are safe zone clusters in hot crime zones, CCTV cameras installation, smart LED street lighting, security enablers in public transport installation of public panic buttons, toilets for women within safe eco-systems and transit dormitories for women and children.
