Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has declared that the government will soon charge heavy fine on drinking alcohol in public places. He warned that people littering the state with beer bottles will be fined Rs. 2500.

"Mind you, there will be a heavy fine if you are found drinking in public from the month of August. We're issuing a notification very soon. I intend to do it before August, so that we can implement it from August 15," Parrikar said in a function on Monday.

Parrikar lashed on people who throw the beer bottles on the rocks and beach. Those who throw bottles on the rocks put other people at risk, said the Goa CM.

He said, "Same way littering will also have a heavy fine of Rs 2,500. I have caught two-three college students going there with beer bottles. This is not done."

He further slammed the citizens who dump flowers in the Mandovi River after offering them to God.

"Every day we get the old bridge cleaned up. Every day I see some flowers being thrown into it. People think that they are doing great religious service by throwing the flower in the water. You can throw flowers in water but not in plastic bags. Half the flowers are thrown on the footpath on the bridge," the chief minister said.
