Congress leader Shashi Tharoor responded to BJP youth wing workers who attacked his constituency office in Thiruvananthapuram on July 16 and shouted slogans asking him to go to Pakistan.

Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday in Thiruvananthapuram said, “They are asking me to go to Pakistan. Who has given them the right to decide that I am not a Hindu like them and I don't have the right to stay in the country? Have they started a Taliban in Hinduism?”

Shashi Tharoor, speaking at Lok Sabha on the mob lynching on Wednesday also said, "It (attack on his office) wasn't only an attack on constitutionally provided office but a larger attempt by ruling party to destroy the idea of India and accepting pluralism. Swami Agnivesh was also attacked. We shouldn't stand by as mob lynching and hooliganism rule democracy."

The Controversy started when Shashi Tharoor addressing an event in Thiruvananthapuram on July 11 said, “If they (BJP) win a repeat in the Lok Sabha our democratic constitution as we understand it will not survive as they will have all the elements they need to tear apart the constitution of India & write a new one.”

“That new one will be the one which will enshrine principles of Hindu Rashtra, that'll remove equality for minorities, that'll create a Hindu Pakistan & that isn't what Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad & great heroes of freedom struggle fought for,” Tharoor said.

Shashi Tharoor was also summoned by Kolkata Court over his 'Hindu-Pakistan' comment.

Advocate Sumeet Chowdhury had filed the case alleging Tharoor's comments had hurt religious sentiments and insulted the Constitution.

As per reports in media, a case under Section 153A/295A of the Indian Penal Code and Section 2 of The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 has been filed against Shashi Tharoor. The court has summoned the leader and has scheduled the hearing on August 14.
