Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government has taken several decisions in the past days to imbibe the cultural and ethical values in state's educational system. Among the number of steps taken to achieve the aim, the latest is the most absurd one.

Haryana's Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma announced on Friday that the state government has decided to add Gayatri Mantra in the morning prayers conducted in the schools. The step has been taken after state's decision to include Gita shlokas in school syllabus received a positive response.

"It (addition of Gita Shlokas to school's syllabus) has yielded positive results. Now, we are going to add Gayatra Mantra in the prayer meetings of schools so that the children can understand its meaning," said Ram Bilas Sharma while addressing the media on Friday.

The BJP minister further went on to claim that, "Gayatri Mantra would be welcomed in Haryana like Gita, cow and Saraswati." Notably, most of the state's schools already have Gayatri Mantra as a part of their morning player but the particular step by the state government has raised many eyebrows.

Not so surprisingly, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has welcomed the decision with open arms. Justifying the decision, he said, "The education department considered a lot of things before bringing this decision."

He further asked those who questioned the decision preaching the equality to all religions, "How can we increase the level of education, how can we bring ethics and culture into our educational system are some things that were included in the discussion."
