The birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India and stalwart of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was celebrated as the Good Governance Day on Tuesday.

Vajpayee was the first non-Congress leader to complete a 5-year term as India's Prime Minister. He was also the first Indian to address the United Nations in Hindi. Besides Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, Vajpayee is the only Indian leader to take the Prime Minister's oath on three occasions.

Besides being one of the most revered Indian politicians, the tenth Prime Minister of India, and an extraordinary orator, Atal Bihari was a celebrated poet of all times. He had been a source of motivation, courage, and wisdom through his words.

Check out the profound sayings of the leader that will inspire you:

“One day you may become an ex-prime minister, but you will never become an ex-poet!”

"Why shouldn’t I live every moment to the fullest?

"Why shouldn’t I admire the beauty in every fragment?"

"Empowering the individual means empowering the nation. And empowerment is best served through rapid economic growth with rapid social change."

"My poet’s heart gives me the strength to face political problems, particularly those which have a bearing on my conscience."

"Victory and defeat are a part of life, which are to be viewed with equanimity."

"You can change friends but not neighbours."

"My Lord,

Never let me climb so high

That I am unable to embrace another stranger,

Deliver me ever from such arrogance!"
