Punjab’s Most Wanted Gangster Vicky Gounder Shot Dead In Police Encounter

The notorious Punjab gangster and Prem Lahoriya's accomplice Vicky Gounder alias Harjinder Singh was killed in an encounter along the Punjab-Rajasthan border on Friday. The wanted criminal was guilty in 15 cases of murder, kidnapping and robbery in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and UP.

Punjab Police was chasing for the 28-year-old when they received the information regarding his whereabouts from a reliable source. The team then went forward with an operation to catch him at Hindumal Kot village of Abohar subdivision in Fazilka district.

In the hour-long shootout, a gangster identified as Sukhpreet Singh was shot dead along with Gounder whereas Lakhwinder Singh Lakha was arrested. The police recovered three weapons from the gangsters including two point 32-bore pistols.

During the encounter, two police personnel including a sub-inspector and assistant sub-inspector were injured. The injured officials were rushed to the hospital for treatment. After the successful operation, state's CM Captain Amarinder Singh congratulated the Punjab Police force.

Director General of Police (intelligence) Dinkar Gupta confirmed, "After our sources confirmed their presence, we surrounded the house. The gangsters opened fire on the police. Lahoria was killed when he was trying to escape by jumping the boundary wall. Gounder was also killed inside the house."

Gounder became a sensation when he escaped from the maximum-security Nabha Central Jail in Punjab along with five other prisoners in November 2016. Ever since then, he has been on a run, escaping the forces and mocking their failure through Facebook.
