Jharkhand police has arrested 14 men for the brutal gang rape and the murder of a 16 years old girl in Rajatenduwa village in Chatra district. The girl was burnt alive inside her home after the gang rape.

Jharkhand Police claims to have arrested fourteen of the twenty people named in the case while six are still at large. A special investigation team has been constituted to look into the case. A medical board has been constituted for the autopsy.

Since the victim was a minor, POSCO Act has been invoked against the accused.

On the night of the incidence, the girl was alone at her home, as everyone else had gone to attend a marriage function. The perpetrators entered her house, took her by force to a deserted spot and raped her.

The girl’s family approached the local panchayats for justice. The panchayats underplayed the whole incident and settled the issue by making the accused do 100 sit-ups and pay a fine of fifty thousand rupees.

Later in the day the accused barged into the house of the victim and started beating her parents mercilessly for reporting the matter to the village council. They then put the victim on fire thus killing her in her own house.

The horrific incident has sent shockwaves across the state. As per reports, the Chatra district administration has offered a financial aid of Rs 2.5 lacs to the family of the victim.

Taking to Twitter Chief Minister Raghubar Das wrote, “Am pained by the heartbreaking incident that took place in Chatra. There is no place for such barbarism in a civilized society. The administration had been directed to take immediate action against the culprits, they will not be spared.”

JMM leader Hemant Soren said, “These cases have increased under this govt. They are doing nothing. They are only doing big rallies to confuse the public. Women are now even afraid to go out in the day.”

In the wake of such incidents, it is necessary to change the thinking of society. Keeping this in mind, News World India and the Flag Foundation of India have launched a campaign 'Swachh Soch: Strong Values, Strong India' because only by clean thoughts can we hope to have a clean and safe society.
