Former TMC Leader Mukul Roy Likely To Be Inducted In BJP In November

Putting an end to the speculation of former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Roy joining the BJP, a senior BJP leader has revealed that Roy would likely be inducted into the party by the first week of November.

The official announcement of Roy joining the BJP will likely be made after the BJP general secretary and West Bengal in-charge charge, Kailash Vijayvargiya meets with the BJP national president Amit Shah sometime this week.

"You can expect an announcement after Kailash Vijayvargiya meets our party president this week. After the meeting, the picture will be clear. Our party leadership is presently busy with the poll campaign in Gujarat," a BJP party source said.

"If everything goes well, Mukul Roy will join our party within the first week of November. His joining can take place either in Kolkata or in New Delhi," a senior BJP leader said to PTI.

According to reports, Vijayvargiya played a key role in convincing the party to induct Roy, highlighting his organisational acumen.

"Given the lack of good organisers in the state BJP unit, Kailashji was positive about Roy from the very beginning. He felt that inducting Roy would help the party in the rural polls in 2018 and Lok Sabha polls in 2019," another BJP leader said.

"Roy's organisational acumen and ability to conduct polls has earned praise from everybody," the leader said.

Once the second in command of the Trinamool Congress after chief Mamata Banerjee, Mukul Roy resigned from the Rajya Sabha earlier this month and quit the party.

He was subsequently suspended from the TMC for 6 years for 'anti-party' activities after he announced his intentions of quitting the party.
