Former Governor And Union Minister Dr. Bhishma Narain Singh Dies At Age 84 Years

A veteran politician, former Governor and Union Minister Dr. Bhishma Narain Singh died on Wednesday at the age of 84 years. From the last couple of days, Singh was admitted at Fortis Hospital in Noida.

On the loss of veteran politician and two times elected Union Minister in the cabinet of Indira Gandhi’s Government in 1980 and 1983, President of Congress, Rahul Gandhi expressed his condolences to the Singh family.

Congress President also said,“The passing away of Dr. Bhishma Narain Singh former Governor and Union Minister leaves a deep void in the Congress Party."

Member of the Lok Sabha, Congress, Ninong Ering also wrote on Twitter, "Deeply saddened to know about the demise of Dr. Bhishma Narain Singh Ji. He was also the first Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. Prayers and strength to family members and friends.”

Singh was actively involved in strengthening the parliamentary democracy in the country and has been a member of All India Congress Committee (AICC) for more than three decades.

Singh won first Parliamentary election as a member of Legislative Assembly of Bihar state in 1967 and served as the Governor of  Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Andaman and Nicobar Island.

Singh was born in Udaigarh, Palamau District of Jharkhand on July 13, 1933 and completed his graduation from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
