Former Delhi CM Madan Lal Khurana Dies At Age 82, Prime Minister Pays Tribute

Former Chief Minister of Delhi, Madan Lal Khurana passed away on Saturday. He was 82 years old.  

From the last two years, Khurana was battling multiple illnesses and undergoing treatment at his residence in Kirti Nagar, Delhi.

According to reports, Khurana's son said, "He breathed his last around 11 pm on Saturday at his Kirti Nagar residence here."

Former Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) chief for Delhi, Khurana served as Chief Minister of Delhi from 1993 to 1996 and as the Governor of Rajasthan in 2004.

He was also former Union Tourism Minister.

In a Twitter post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays tribute to Khurana and said, "Anguished by the passing away of Shri Madan Lal Khurana Ji. He worked tirelessly for the progress of Delhi, particularly towards ensuring better infrastructure. He distinguished himself as a hardworking and people-friendly administrator, both in the Delhi government and Centre."

"Shri Madan Lal Khurana Ji will always be remembered for the manner in which he strengthened the BJP in Delhi. He made unwavering efforts towards serving the post-partition refugees in Delhi. My thoughts and solidarity with his family and supporters," he added.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh also paid his last respects to Khurana and wrote on Twitter, "Paid my last respects to Late Madanlal Khurrana ji and expressed my condolences to the bereaved family. May God give them strength and courage to bear this huge loss."

“We lost our great leaders and a true grass- root worker who devoted his life to the betterment of the people of Delhi,” Delhi BJP Chief Manoj Tiwari said.

Khurana had resigned from the post of Delhi BJP chief after the party’s defeat in 2003 assembly polls.

Two months ago, Khurana's eldest son had died due to a heart attack.
