Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday has again triggered a new controversy with his statement on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Tharoor quoted an unnamed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) source to compare PM Modi to a “scorpion sitting on a Shivling”.

While addressing an audience at the Bengaluru Literature festival Tharoor said, “There's an extraordinarily striking metaphor expressed by an unnamed RSS source to a journalist, that, "Modi is like a scorpion sitting on a Shivling, you can't remove him with your hand and you cannot hit it with a chappal either."

Reacting to Tharoor's statement, national spokesperson of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Shahnawaz Hussain has asked Tharoor to apologize for his remarks. Minister of Law and Justice of India, Ravi Shankar Prasad termed Tharoor's statement as an insult of Lord Shiva.

The 62-year-old, Tharoor had previously also triggered a controversy with his "Hindu Taliban" remarks when BJP youth wing workers attacked his constituency office in Thiruvananthapuram on July 16 and shouted slogans asking him to go to Pakistan.

Shashi Tharoor had said, “They are asking me to go to Pakistan. Who has given them the right to decide that I am not a Hindu like them and I don't have the right to stay in the country? Have they started a Taliban in Hinduism?”
