FM's Silence On PNB Scam Was To Protect His Daughter: Rahul Gandhi

The Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday commented on The silence of the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on the PNB scam saying that he is protection his daughter.

Quoting an article from The Wire, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "It's now revealed that our FM's silence on the PNB Scam was to protect his lawyer daughter, who was paid a large retainer by the accused just a month before the Scam became public. When other law firms of the accused have been raided by the CBI, why not hers?"

As per reports, Arun Jaitley’s daughter’s firm, Chambers of Jaitley and Bakshi, was engaged with Mehul Choksi’s Geetanjali Gems Ltd in December 2017 on a retainership contract.

In the wake of the PNB controversy, various law firms have come under the scanner.

Last month, the Mumbai office of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas which had taken up an assignment just a few weeks before the scam was uncovered was raided by a CBI team as part of its investigations into the fraud.

Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party had alleged that there was a connection between the family of senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Nirav Modi.

The BJP said that Singhvi’s family has had business dealings with the prime accused in the fraud case for a long time.

While providing details of the link BJP stated that Nirav Modi’s company was a tenant of a Kamala Mills property that was owned by Adwait Holdings, in which his wife and sons are directors. 

Singhvi had called these remarks rubbish and termed them ludicrous, malicious and defamatory.
