Union Minister and BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Choubey on Sunday slammed the FIR registered against his son Arijit Shashwat, calling it false and that it was registered against him by Opposition parties.

Choubey, who is the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, called for an impartial investigation by agencies of the centre and the state into the FIR filed against his son Arijit Shashwat who surrendered to the police on Saturday.

"False FIR has been registered against him by opposition parties. When his anticipatory bail got denied then he respected the court's decision & surrendered himself. We demand impartial investigation by agencies of center & state," Ashwini Choubey said on his son Arijit Shashwat.

Arijit Shashwat surrendered to the police in front of a temple in Patna where a huge crowd had gathered, hours after a Bhagalpur court rejected his bail plea. An arrest warrant had been issued against Shashwat and 8 others after an FIR was filed against them at a Bhagalpur police station over the clashes that broke out on March 17.

Clashes erupted in Bhagalpur's Nathnagar area between two communities on March 17 when an unauthorised procession was taken out by BJP, Bajrang Dal and RSS activists, led by Arijit Shashwat. In the clashes, over 35 people including policemen were injured and several shops and vehicles were set afire. Locals reportedly objected to the loud music playing during the procession.

Shashwat admitted leading a religious procession on March 17, but denied chanting any provocative slogans or brandishing weapons, and instead blamed the local MLA for inciting the violence.

The Bhagalpur clashes set off a series of minor communal riots in other districts of the state, spreading to Aurangabad, Nalanda, Samastipur, Sheikhpura and Nawada districts after the Ram Navami festivities.
