Former IAS officer Shah Faesal has launched his political party the 'Jammu and Kashmir Peoples' Movement,' at a function in Rajbagh area of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. Former Vice-President of the JNU Students' Union (JNUSU), Shehla Rashid, also joined Faesal’s party.

Faesal also spoke of his personal resolve to remain truthful. "My entire family is here in this gathering today. My little son is listening to what I say and promise. I will do nothing to prove to my son that his father made false promises or lied to his people," he said.

Faesal, who is a 2010 IAS batch topper, quit the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in January this year as a mark of protest against the "unabated killings in Kashmir and marginalization of Indian Muslims." The former IAS officer had accused the central government of "subverting public institutions like the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA)."

In a Facebook post put up on the day of his resignation in January, Faesal claimed that "Muslims had been reduced to second-class citizens" in the country. He also hit out against the centre, accusing it of subverting public institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India, the Central Bureau of Investigation and the National Investigation Agency to fulfill its political needs.
