The most anticipated and widely promoted elections of the year, Gujarat Election's first phase voting has been badly affected with the complaints of malfunctioning and tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) , which were reported in the initial hours of voting on Saturday.

Reports suggest that complains of technical error in  over 40 machines were poured upon Election Commission (EC). Congress Porbandar candidate Arjun Modhwadia also accused the opposition of connecting EVMs to the mobile phone bluetooth. " All the machines got connected to bluetooth of three mobile phones," he said.

Congress Mandvi candidate Shaktisinh Gohile also came forward with the complains of malfunctioning EVMs. "There have been reports of EVMs not functioning properly from some places," he said. He further suggested that after such complaints, the EC should consider extending the polling duration.

Gujarat Elections have began on 89 seats with a total of 977 candidates competing against each other. While 58 seats fall under the Saurashtra and Kutch regions, 12 seats of Surat will also matter. Gujarat's current Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is also competing during the Phase 1 elections among others.

Voting at the Jamkandorna booth of Jetpur constituency was halted for 15 minutes due to technical glitch while minister Jayesh Radadiya was among the people who waited in the queue. In the Rajkot district, over 33 machines were reported with errors.

Almost 27,158 EVMs are being used in 24,689 polling stations. The prestige battle between BJP and Congress has turned bitter at many instances. However, PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi has urged the voters to exercise their franchise in large number irrespective of who they vote for.
