The Election Commission late on Tuesday once again rejected the nomination of Tamil Actor Vishal for the upcoming RK Nagar bypolls, hours after the actor said that his nomination was accepted after the first rejection.

The 40-year-old actor Vishal expressed his discontent on Twitter, saying that the initial acceptance and then the rejection of his nomination was disheartening.

“Democracy at its lowest low!! Disheartening to hear that the nomination made by me was initially accepted & later when I left, has been announced as invalid,” he tweeted.

Early on Tuesday, the Election Commission rejected the nominations of Vishal and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar citing discrepancies in their respective documents.

Following the first rejection by the EC, Vishal had briefly staged a 'dharna' in protest, but was removed from the location by the police. The ruling AIADMK as well as Opposition's DMK, among other political parties, had demanded the rejection of the nomination of Vishal, citing documentary irregularities.

Soon after, in a tweet, Vishal claimed that the Election Commission had accepted his nomination for the RK Nagar bypoll.

“After much struggle, my nomination for the RK Nagar election is finally accepted Truth Always Triumphs!,” Vishal tweeted.

The RK Nagar bypoll election is scheduled for December 21, more than a year after the seat fell vacant after the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on December 5, 2016. Although a bypoll had been conducted after her death, it was later cancelled due to allegations of paid votes.
