An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale hit the Palghar district at 11 am Today in Maharashtra's Mumbai city.

The quake struck Dahanu town in Palghar. No loss of life and damage has been reported yet. The depth of the quake was 5 km.

Since November 2018, the region has been hit by some 30 low-intensity earthquakes. Friday’s is the strongest so far at 4.3 on the Richter scale. Due to the quakes, over 10,000 residents of 40 villages have moved out of their homes into tents erected by the district administration and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

According to data, it could be an “earthquake swarm”, a series of many (sometimes thousands) low-intensity earthquakes without a discernible main shock that can occur over weeks in active geothermal areas. Seismologists are wary of drawing a definite conclusion without more data.

Meanwhile, another earthquake of 3.3 magnitudes hit Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh at 11.40 am. However, this month Delhi NCR also faced tremors with a magnitude of 4.0 in west up.
