The Delhi Police has arrested a 47-year-old woman for allegedly shooting and injuring her mother and brother at their residence in south Delhi's Defence Colony, the police said on Friday.

The shooter, identified as Sangeeta Singh is a state-level shooter and was reportedly in an inebriated state when she used her licensed pistol to shoot at her family members around Thursday midnight.

Both the victims, 75-year-old Geeta, the mother of the shooter, and her son Harsaran, aged in his 40s, are said to be in stable condition, however a  case under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder) has been registered against Sangeeta.

"Hearing the gun shots, a neighbour informed the police. Harsaran sustained bullet injury in his leg while Geeta in her chest and abdomen. They are admitted in AIIMS trauma centre and are reportedly out of danger," Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya said to news agencies.

"Prima facie, it appears she was tense over an ongoing property dispute with her mother and aunt," he said.

The father of the accused told the police that Sangeeta was under depression.

"As per her father's statement, she stopped going for shooting practice and had stopped meeting people since the last one year. She was under depression and was taking medicine for the same. Yesterday night she took sleeping pills and medicine along with alcohol," the officer said.

"Police will request for cancellation of licence of her weapon," Baaniya said.
