Chhattisgarh: Doordarshan cameraperson Along With 2 Cops Killed In Naxal Attack In Dantewada District

In a Maoist attack in poll-bound Chhattisgarh, two policemen and a cameraperson from Doordarshan TV were killed in Dantewada district on Tuesday.

Two security officers were also injured in the attack. The police were patrolling in the area when the attack took place.

It is learnt that the Doordarshan team was in Dantewada for election coverage

Speaking to media, Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) Sundarraj said, "Today our patrolling party was ambushed by Naxals in Aranpur. Whether the attack is related to the elections will be ascertained only after a probe. Those killed were identified as Sub Inspector Rudra Pratap, Assistant Constable Mangalu and DD News cameraman Achyutanand from Delhi."

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh condemned the attack on police forces and DD cameraperson, calling it an "attack on democracy." "The society should strongly condemn the acts of violence and should come together in such times." He also called the attack a "shameful" act of Naxals.

I&B Minister Rajyavendra Rathore also condemned the attack and took to his Twitter account and wrote "These insurgents will not weaken our resolve. We will prevail."

Last week, four CRPF personnel were killed and two more injured after Maoists used a powerful IED to target a bulletproof mobile bunker vehicle in Bijapur district.

Chhattisgarh will go to polls in two phases November 12 and November 20. The counting will be held on December 11.
