The Patiala House Court on Wednesday granted bail to Former Air Force Chief SP Tyagi and his cousins in connection with the Augusta Westland money laundering case.

Special judge Arvind Kumar, after taking cognizance of the chargesheet filed in the case, had summoned over 30 accused in the case to appear before it today, including former AgustaWestland and Finmeccanica directors Giuseppe Orsi and Bruno Spagnolini and lawyer Gautam Khaitan and his wife Ritu.

Kumar granted bail to Tyagi and his cousins involved in the case and asked them to furnish a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh with one surety of the like amount.

The court had earlier asked the accused to appear before it on Wednesday (September 12), while issuing fresh non-bailable warrants against Italian middlemen Carlo Gerosa and Guido Haschke and Dubai-based businessman Rajeev Saxena in the case.

According to the case filed by the Enforcement Directorate, AgustaWestland International Limited had paid 58 million Euros as kickbacks through Tunisia-based Gordian Services Sarl and IDS Sarl.

These companies dew off the money in the name of consultancy contracts to Interstellar Technologies Ltd and others and these funds were further transferred to Dubai-based UHY Saxena and Matrix Holdings Ltd in Dubai.

Earlier in January 2014, India had scrapped the contract with Finmeccanica’s British subsidiary AgustaWestland for supplying 12 AW-101 VVIP choppers to the IAF over alleged breach of contractual obligations and charges of kickbacks of Rs 423 crore paid by it to secure the deal. The first chargesheet was filed by the ED in November 2014.
