Delhi Rape Survivor Gets Her Parents Booked For Accepting Bribe To Withdraw Her Complaint

An 18-year-old girl in Delhi who alleged that she was raped in 2017 by two men got her own parents booked after they accepted a bribe from the accused and attempted to force her to withdraw her rape complaint.

The girl narrated her ordeal to the police on Tuesday, and told them that she had been raped by two unknown men in August 2017 out of which both were arrested, but one was on interim bail.

The accused out on bail approached the girl's parents on April 8 and offered them Rs 20 lakh if they could convince their daughter to withdraw the case, and since the family was from a humble background they agreed, reported TOI.

The girl overhead the entire conversation and alleged that her parents did not once disapprove of the bribe and instead asked for advance money so they could start convincing her.

“I completely denied taking back the case, but my parents didn’t back out either. They kept trying to convince me and I stuck to my stand. The next morning they thrashed me and blackmailed me, saying that they were poor and needed that money,” she said in her complaint to the police.

Soon after, the parents were handed over Rs 5 lakh as advance money and the parents hid the money and left for court.

The girl found the cash and took it to the Aman Vihar police station to lodge a complaint against her parents and narrated the incident to the police. A case was filed under IPC Sections 195 (A) (threatening any person to give false evidence), 506 (threatening any person to give false evidence) and 120 (B) (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.

The police formed a team to investigate and were able to catch the girl's mother while the father is absconding after hearing of his wife's arrest.
