Indian Army Major Nikhil Handa was on Friday sent to 14 days judicial custody by Delhi's Patiala House Court for allegedly killing a fellow officer's wife Shailja Dwivedi in Delhi on June 23. Nikhil Handa was arrested on June 24 in Meerut's Daurala, a day after he allegedly killed Shailja Dwivedi in Delhi.

Delhi Police had also recovered the weapon on Thursday that he had used to kill Shailja Dwivedi from Meerut. Shailja Dwivedi was found dead with her throat slit in Delhi's Brar Square area on June 23, after she was dropped by the driver. When the driver came back to pick her she was missing from the place she had given to the driver to pick her back home.

According to reports, Nikhil Handa had wanted to marry Shalija Dwivedi, but she had refused the proposal of Nikhil Handa. Police found that Handa was obsessed with Shalija Dwivedi and 3,500 calls and messages were exchanged between them in a span of six months after they met for the first time in 2015 in Nagaland where Shalija's husband was on duty. Most of the calls and messages were made by Major Nikhil Handa.
