Delhi BJP Chief Manoj Tiwari Tells SC To Drop Contempt Notice Issued Against Him

Bhartiya Janta party chief Manoj Tiwari told the Supreme Court on Monday that he broke the locks of sealed houses in Gokalpur as a symbolic protest against the illegal action by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC).

Tiwari said he was willing to accept the role of sealing officer if the court-mandated monitoring committee was dissolved, would make Delhi a better liveable and lawful place within four years.

According to reports, Tiwari claimed that sealing committee and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) were misusing the authority. 

Tiwari urged the apex court to drop the contempt notice issued against him.

On September 19, the Supreme Court issued a contempt notice to Delhi BJP chief Tiwari in connection with breaking seal of locked houses in Gokalpur.

The houses were sealed by the EDMC for running dairy facility illegally. 

Tiwari had visited Gokalpur on September 16 and broke the locks of sealed houses. After Tiwari's alleged illegal action of breaking locks without the prior approval, EDMC filed a complaint against him for tampering with the seal of houses.

Based on the EDMC complaint, a case under IPC Section 188 and relevant provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act has been registered against Tiwari.
