Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja’s wife Rivaba Jadeja formally joined the Bhartiya Janata Party in Jamnagar on Sunday in the presence of Gujarat Cabinet Minister R C Faldu, MP Poonamben Maadam, Jamnagar city President Hasmukh Hindocha, and Jamnagar district President Chandresh Patel.

According to media reports, Rivaba induction was commended by Hasmukh Hindocha, where he said, “She is a known face in Jamnagar and Gujarat. Her entry gives the BJP one more recognizable face and it will help the party.”

Jamnagar is the hometown of her husband, Ravindra. Five months ago, Rivaba Jadeja was appointed a chief of women’s wing of Karni Sena, a Kashtriya community outfit that had protested the release of Hindi movie Padmaavat.

Last year, she was involved in a fracas with a police constable in Jamnagar after her car had hit his motorbike. She had accused the policeman of assaulting her.

In an interview with ‘Mirror’ she expressed her wish to serve the community and the country. "I may have joined the BJP just before the election but let the world not view it through a narrow prism of pre-electoral politics.

My intention is to serve the party, the community, and the country." "My husband being a celebrity will help as he is a youth icon and it will also garner the youth towards the party," she said. Jamnagar city president Hasmukh Hindocha said, "When women like Rivaba join the party it serves several aspects besides strengthening the party. The aura of Ravindrabhai (Jadeja) also helps in attracting youth and women."

Jamnagar district BJP president Chandresh Patel said, "Rivaba joining the party came as a surprise to me. The only thing I can say is that it will definitely help the party." It may be noted that the Karni Sena, of which Rivaba became the women's president, had organized protests against the movie Padmavat claiming that it portrayed the community in bad light.
