Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) three-day long outreach programme Future Of Bharat: An RSS Perspective concluded on Wednesday. RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on the last day of the event addressed various issues as he was responding to a series of around 100 questions asked by the audience attending the programme.

Ram Temple

Speaking on the construction of Ram Mandir, the RSS Chief said that Ayodhya is the birthplace of Lord Ram and the Ram temple should be built there, this would also result in peace between the hindu and muslim community and would hence end a long time disagreement. He said, “Ram is Bhagwan (god) for many, but there are some who consider him as an icon of maryada (moral standard), for some he is imam-e-hind (spiritual leader). This is an issue of faith for all sections of society that where his birthplace is, there should be a temple.”

Speaking about the idea of an ordinance for the construction of the Ram temple, Bhagwat said, “The decision to bring the ordinance is of the government’s; and the proposal to start a movement on the issue rests with the Ram Janam Bhoomi Mukti Yajan Samiti, I am not part of both. They will have take a call on whether the ordinance can be brought in legally, whether it will be challenged and they will be asked question on whether the decision (to bring the ordinance) was taken with the elections in mind... But as a swayamsevak and the RSS chief, I feel the temple should be constructed soon.”

Answering a question about the reservation policies, Bhagwat said, “RSS completely supports the reservation given by the constitution to remove social stigmas . The decision regarding reservation continuity has to be taken by those to whom reservation has been granted. Whenever they feel it is not necessary, they will decide.”

He also said, “Demographic balance should be maintained. There should be a Population Policy considering the scenario of the next 50 years & resultant Policy Framework should be implemented equally across the nation.”

Cow Vigilanties & Mob Lynching

Speaking about cow vigilantism, he said, “Cow protectors shouldn't be equated with those anti social vigilantes. The society needs to be made aware. Only then cows will be protected and country would benefit.”

“Cow protection should definitely happen. But it won't happen only through a law. The people of the country should keep cows. If they are allowed to roam free, it creates a menace and reduces the sanctity of the cow,” said Bhagwat

He also said, “Taking law in one's own hand, violence, destructing property are totally inappropriate. Due process of law should follow. The guilty should be punished. Stricter laws have to be made and implemented and criminals should be penalized  appropriately. This society also needs to keep an eye on these. The societal atmosphere should be such that such activities are not tolerated.”

Speaking on the issue of homosexuality, Bhagwat said that homosexuals exist in the society and the society needs to change with time. "Making an issue out of it will not help," Bhagwat said.
