BJP MLA Ram Kadam's statements from September 3 that he would help youths abduct girls they like, continues to draw criticism, with former Maharashtra minister and Congress leader Subodh Savji on Thursday announcing a reward of Rs 5 lakh for anyone chopping off Kadam's tongue.

"I am announcing a Rs 5-lakh reward for anyone who chops off BJP MLA Ram Kadam’s tongue. I strongly condemn him saying girls should be abducted," Savji said.

Kadam, at a 'dahi handi' event in his suburban Ghatkopar assembly had said to the gathered youths that if a girl rejects their proposal, "I will kidnap the girl concerned and hand her over to you (for marriage)."

His statements sparked controversy, with the RSS affiliated youth wing ABVP, Nationalist Congress Party, Mumbai Congress and the Leader of Opposition slamming him, as well as the BJP for not taking action against him.

Right-wing student organisation ABVP staged a protest against Kadam, demanding the BJP to act against him.

Aniket Ovhal, the Pradesh Mantri, Konkan Prant of ABVP, termed Kadam's remark as "unfortunate and unforgivable" and said, "Kadam's misogynistic remark cannot be ignored. We have asked the BJP, state Women Commission as well as Mumbai Police to take suitable action against the MLA. He doesn't even have the basic courtesy to apologise for his distasteful comments."

The Nationalist Congress Party demanded an FIR against Kadam and called for him to besacked from his MLA post.

"Entire Maharashtra is seeking actions to be taken against him. However, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also the Home Minister, has been mum on this. We demand Fadnavis register an FIR against Ravan Kadam and his subsequent arrest," Nawab Malik, the NCP Spokesperson said.

Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said, "Kadam had insulted our daughters and sisters in public during Janmashtami functions. So he should also tender the apology in public. The several women had registered the complaints against Kadam but the police are not ready to take actions."

Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam also tweeted: "Dear CM Devendra Fadnavis, women all over Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai, are agitating against your MLA Ram Kadam for his anti-women statement. Despite being the head of the state you're keeping quiet and not taking actions either. Why? Are you supporting him?"
