Congress Launches Manifesto For Karnataka, Calls It People's Mann Ki Baat

The Congress party on Friday released its election manifesto for the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections. Releasing the manifesto Congress President Rahul Gandhi said this was the voice of the people of Karnataka.

“The PM likes to tell people his Mann Ki Baat. This manifesto contains the Mann Ki Baat of the Karnataka people.” He added.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that he used to check the 2013 manifesto before every budget preparation and confidently announced that he had delivered as promised. He also rejected any anti-incumbency against his government.

One of the key points in the manifesto is the promise to restore the powers of Lokayukta, allowing it to initiate suo-moto cases.

The manifesto promises to the creation of 1 crore new jobs over 5 years if the party is voted back to power. Targeting first-time voters, the party promises to give free smartphones to all students in the age group of 18-23 years. Every woman government and panchayat employee with an annual income of Rs 2.5lakh or less will be provided 50% cost subsidy or Rs 30,000, whichever is less, to buy scooters.

Congress has promised to create an agricultural corridor covering 10 districts and the setting up of a statutory Farmers income commission. The party promises to spend 1.25 lakh crores to rejuvenate the lakes of Bengaluru and to expedite Cauvery phase-2.

Interestingly, the manifesto also speaks of clean energy and the party promises to provide adequate, clean, reliable and sustainable energy for all.

Reacting to the manifesto, union minister and BJP leader Prakash Javdekar said, “The Congress manifesto is full of lies, and it is fake. There is no vision or direction in it. They don't even have the calculations of what they have achieved over the last five years.”
