Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi Kicks-Off MP-Poll Campaign With 18-Km Roadshow

Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi after his Kailash-Mansarovar trip has begun his party's roadshow in Madhya Pradesh's capital city Bhopal, on Monday along with his party workers who had put up the posters and banners describing the 48-year-old leader, as a 'Shiv bhakt'.

Rahul Gandhi sought blessing from Hindu priests and young girls before beginning his roadshow from Lalghati Square, close to the Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal.

Thousands of party workers and supporters accompanied him holding the party's flags as he started the Congress Party's Sankalp Yatra.

Hindu priests, chanting mantras, blessed Gandhi as he reached the Lalgathi area, amid a heavy security cover, to launch the poll campaign in Madhya Pradesh where the BJP has been ruling for the last 15 years. It is learnt that the roadshow will cover around 18 km

According to media reports Congress leader Bhupendra Gupta said, "Over two lakh Congress workers are expected to participate in the event".

"Security has been tightened in the city and an additional 1,500 policemen have been deployed", Jaideep Prasad, Bhopal's Inspector General (IG) of Police, said.

Speaking to media, Madhya Pradesh Revenue Minister Umashankar Gupta ahead of the Congress leader's visit said, "Rahul Gandhi's track record hasn't been good for his party. Wherever he has gone to campaign, the Congress has lost. He isn't bothered about the problems of the people of the country. He isn't aware of the situation here. He is doing this for the sake of votes".

Assembly elections are due in  Madhya Pradesh along with Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram.
