"I have gone through the chargesheet and documents filed. On the basis of the police report, I take cognisance for the offence of abetment to suicide punishable under Section 306 and committing cruelty upon late Sunanda Pushkar under Section 498A IPC," he said.

Reacting to the news, Tharoor issued a statement, which he also uploaded on his Twitter and Facebook pages. Tharoor claims that he has fully cooperated with the investigative team since the very start and maintains that due legal process must be followed in all aspects to the case.

“I would like to reiterate my position that I find the charges preposterous and baseless, the product of a malicious and vicious campaign against myself,” Tharoor wrote.

“I would continue to vigorously contest these charges and maintain my steadfast conviction that ultimately the truth will prevail through the judicial system.” He added.
