Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's drive against VIP culture, his government is providing special security to around 475 people. When compared to the previous governments, this is an all time high number even more than the previous congress government which had granted protection to 350 people at best.

Modi government is providing special security even to people like Baba Ramdev, Mata Aamritanandamayi, Sakshi Maharaj and Mahant Nrityagopal.

However, a senior ministry official told NDTV that the government is looking to take away the special security provided to many people.

The media outlet's report added, some politicians with NSG and paramilitary security may lost their NSG cover.

Most likely candidates to lose their security cover may include RJD chief Lalu Yadav, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and senior DMK leader M Karunanidhi.

These politicians have the highest level - Z plus security, gives only to 50 people by the government each secured by around 35 to 40 highly trained security personnel. There are several level of security provided to politicians and VIPs by the state and central government. These categories range from X to Z based on the threat perception of the given person.

Lalu Yadav, who is among the elite politicians protected by NSG, may lost his security given that the Bihar leader rarely goes out of his state borders and is secure within the region.

However,  scaling down security is not that easy if we take political pressure into account.

Nevertheless, providing security Z plus security to businessman cum yoga guru and sppiritual leaders like Baba Ramdev and Mata Aamritanandamayi is indeed promoting VIP culture.

Many politicians are even provided NSG guards, including their children and Home Minister Rajnath Singh is no exception.
