In a recent communication to the respective state governments, the Ministry of Home Affairs has cautioned them against directly dealing with agencies of "countries of concern" like China, Iran and Afghanistan on matters of internal security, media reported on Sunday.

The Centre specified that such communication must be routed through it for the sake of national security. The communication sent to all the chief secretaries specified that state police forces should be directed "not to facilitate or entertain" any such requests from organisations or agencies from countries of concern without prior consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
