CBI Raids National Defence Academy Khadakwasla

The Central Bureau of Investigation raided the Pune campus of the National Defence Academy. The raids are being conducted over the irregularities in the appointment of the teaching faculty for the war school.

The Bureau has registered FIR against NDA Principal Professor O.P. Shukla under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. Cases have also been registered against a professor of Political Science, the Head of Department (HoD) of Chemistry along with two assistant professors.

The preliminary enquiry of the allegations began in 2017 when CBI had received various complaints regarding the same issue. In the preliminary enquiry, the investigation agency found that some faculty members have submitted fake documents on educational qualification and academic performance, for their appointment at the premier tri-services academy of the country.

The allegations are that there were irregularities in the recruitment and appointment of the teaching faculty in the institution. CBI is also conducting raids at the offices and residences of the accused.

“Not the first time”

This is not the first time that the Central Bureau of Investigation has raided the campus. In April 2014, the agency along with Army’s Vigilance Wing conducted raids on the campus over the issue of procurement of computers.

CBI conducted a raid which lasted for one whole day seizing various documents and several RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) computers. Apart from this they also questioned various academic officers, heads of departments and various other staff members.

The National Defence Academy is the joint services academy and training ground of the armed forces of the country i.e. the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force.
