Weeks after Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to prison for 20 years after being held guilty of raping two of his women followers at the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Haryana's Sirsa, the CBI court on Saturday will hear arguments in the murder case against the self-styled godman.

The 50-year-old Gurmeet was accused of having Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and former Dera manager Ranjit Singh murdered by his followers in suspicion that they were going to expose him.

The same court that had held Gurmeet Singh guilty of rape will be hearing the murder case.

Since the last verdict on Dera Chief had fuelled large-scale violence in Haryana and parts of Punjab, this time police has already taken appropriate precautions.

His conviction had led to violence in Panchkula and Sirsa in Haryana, leaving 38 people dead and 264 injured. Isolated incidents of violence were also reported from Delhi and several other places in Punjab.

Haryana Director General of Police B.S. Sandhu, on Friday said that adequate para military and Haryana Police personnel had been stationed around the court complex in Sector 1 here and other areas in Panchkula town to maintain law and order.

Police officials also said that rapist Ram Rahim will not be physically produced in the CBI special court on Saturday. Instead, he will be connected through video conferencing from Sunaria district jail, where he is currently lodged.

So far, there have been no reports of the Dera followers assembling in Panchkula ahead of Saturday's hearing. Earlier during the rape case verdict, lakhs of Dera followers had swarmed the city.

Chhatrapati and Ranjit Singh were murdered in 2002. The sect chief is an accused in both murder cases as these were carried out allegedly at his behest.
