Canadian Woman Alleges Rape By Man She Met At Pub In Delhi’s Hauz Khas

A 20-year-old Canadian woman has alleged that she was raped at an east Delhi guest house by its manager whom she had befriended at a pub in south Delhi’s Hauz Khas on Wednesday, police said.

On the advice of an Indian friend, the woman visited AIIMs after the alleged rape and then called the police which subsequently arrested the 25-year-old suspect. Deputy commissioner of police (south), Romil Baaniya confirmed the arrest and said that a rape case had been registered on the basis of the complaint from the foreigner.

According to reports, the Canadian woman is on a visit to India with 2 female friends and had arrived in Delhi on Monday for a few days since she knows a family in the capital. On Tuesday night, the family friend took the visiting woman and her friends to a pub in Hauz Khas where more friends joined in, among which one was the suspect.

"The man befriended the woman at the pub. Later, he invited her to his place,” said the DCP.

Around 12:30 AM on Wednesday, the woman went with the suspect to a guest house in east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar where he works as a manager.

“According to the woman’s statement, the accused raped her at the guest house. The woman somehow managed to escape and took a cab and called her friend who advised her to reach AIIMS and call the police,” said the investigator.

The police were contacted around 2:30 AM on Wednesday after which a police team reached AIIMS to record her statement. The Canadian national had given enough details about the accused to enable the police to apprehend him.
