A teacher of biology at the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Raipur is accused of saying that girls wearing short clothes are inviting Nirbhaya type rape cases, to a classroom of co-ed students. The incident was reported when girls took a step to inform their parents about the remarks of the teacher.

The parents of these girls then met the principal Bhagwan Das Ahire on Monday and complained against the biology teacher Snehlata Shankhwar. The principal revealed that students had written an anonymous letter detailing what Shankhwar says in the class and how it makes them uncomfortable but it seemed so outlandish that he considered that it was a prank.

As per the reports, the teacher allegedly said,"Girls expose their body only when they don't have beautiful faces. Girls have become so shameless, why did Nirbhaya go out so late at night with a boy who wasn't her husband? It's difficult to understand why an issue was made of this. Such incidents happen with girls in remote areas frequently. Nirbhaya's mother shouldn't have allowed her to go out so late at night."

Some students also have recorded the remarks made by the bio teacher in her 'counselling sessions'. They shared those audio clippings with their complaint as proof of the 'mental harassment' they faced.

In one of the audio clip, she is heard of saying that she firmly believes it was "Nirbhaya's mistake and not the boys" and that "Girls who face such incidents are cursed and it's a punishment for them." Adding that "when boys see girls doing it with the person they assume the girl would do it' with others as well."

Sangathan assistant commissioner Venkateshwarlu said that he has sought a detailed report from the principal and will comment only after reading the report.

A parent Dhanuklal Sahu said that the parents have asked the principal to take action within 24 hours. "Otherwise, we'll approach the education minister, collector and police."

Snehlata Shankhwar was still standing by her remarks on Tuesday despite the controversy and complaints.

"I instruct girls according to KV code of conduct. Parents should ensure that their children should at least wear the school uniform properly. I have objected and pointed out at girl students for wearing lipstick at times." She further added that "What happened with Nirbhaya was wrong but had she not gone out late she could have saved herself."
