Jawan Martyred, 3 Terrorists Killed In Srinagar BSF Camp Attack Claimed By JeM

An Assistant Sub-Inspector has been killed and 3 other BSF jawans injured along with a policeman as terrorists carried out a suicide attack on a BSF camp located near the Srinagar International Airport on Tuesday early morning.

Three terrorists were also been killed in the ensuing security operation and the attack that has been claimed by the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror outfit.

According to police sources, militants entered the 182 Battalion camp in Srinagar's Humhama area attacked the BSF camp at 4:30 AM. In response, a security operation was launched by Army para-commandos, the BSF, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and state police personnel to flush out the remaining militants. The specialised counter-terrorism unit 53 Rashtriya Rifles was also called in.

"Security forces responded promptly to Srinagar Terror Attack & ensured that there is no collateral damage to civilians," said MoS PMO Jitendra Singh.

The area where the attack took place when militants breached into the headquarters of the 182 BSF battalion has a cluster of security installations including a technical airport used by the Armed Forces and VIPs, apart from the Gogo Humhama Air Force Station and other facilities of the BSF and CRPF.  

Activities of the nearby Srinagar airport have been curtailed and the Kashmir Valley School located close by has been ordered shut.
