BJP leader Manoj Thakre was found dead in a field in Warla police station limits in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district on Sunday while he had gone for the morning walk.

Manoj Thakre was holding the post of BJP's Balwadi town Mandal president for the third time. He was known to be close to former Barwani MLA Antar Singh Arya.

The death of Manoj Thakre (48) came to light three days after another BJP leader was shot dead in Mandsaur, prompting the party to claim that its leaders were being targeted.

According to media reports district, Superintendent of Police YD Bhutia said, "The body had injury marks on the face and around the neck.”

It seemed Thakre was killed by unknown persons, she said. A Special Investigation Team headed by an additional superintendent of police has been formed to investigate the killing, she said.

Due to the incident, a large number of Bharatiya Janata Party members have reached Bhalwari and additional police forces have been deployed.

Former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan slammed Kamal Nath government and had demanded CBI probe.

“Government is taking this lightly. There seems to be a larger conspiracy behind this (BJP leader killed in Mandsaur). I demand a CBI inquiry,” he said.
