The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appointed union ministers JP Nadda, and Nirmala Sitharaman as election in-charge for Uttar Pradesh and Delhi respectively along with other party members for various states, on Saturday.

Senior BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh Kalraj Mishra and Madhya Pradesh leader Vishwas Sarang have been appointed incharge and co-incharge for Haryana’s 10 Lok Sabha seats.

BJP general secretary Muralidhar Rao will be the Lok Sabha election in-charge for Karnataka and Avinash Rai Khanna has been roped in for Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has been given the responsibility for Tamil Nadu and Union Territories of Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar.

Uttar Pradesh is crucial for the BJP, as the party had won 71 seats on its own in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, while its ally Apna Dal won two seats out of 80 seats in the state.

The party had also won all seven seats from Delhi and had also performed well in Karnataka and Haryana. In Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP had won three of six seats in the previous elections.

However, the party could win only one seat in Tamil Nadu and is expecting to improve its performance in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

The appointments were made by party President Amit Shah. Last month, Shah announced the names of election in-charges in the Hindi heartland states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Where the BJP ceded power to a resurgent Congress, BJP appointed senior leaders to steer the party for parliamentary electoral triumph.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar and senior leader Sudhanshu Trivedi will oversee the BJP’s poll preparations in Rajasthan, while Sawantra Dev Singh and Satish Upadhyay are the heads for Madhya Pradesh.
