Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has infuriated the Meghalaya Unit of Bharatiya Janata Party. Tharoor, a star campaigner in the poll-bound state of Meghalaya stroked controversy when he spoke on the BJP-NPP alliance. The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma had called the NPP as the ‘B’ team of BJP. Taking it a step further Tharoor said that the NPP was attached to be BJP as a tail “that wags whenever the dog barks”.

Condemning the dog analogy, BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav who is the party in-charge for North-East called Tharoor's statement an insult to the people of Meghalaya.

Ram Madhav tweeted, “This is d indecent remark reportedly made by Shashi Tharoor, who pretends to occupy moral high ground, in Meghalaya about NPP n BJP: It (NPP) was attached to d BJP as a tail ‘that wags whenever d dog barks’. It is an insult to people of Meghalaya. Media is silent?”

He also shared Tharoor's statement with the caption, “Tharoor indecent best”.

A statement released by BJP Meghalaya condemning Tharoor reads, “By comparing a regional party with so much of influence to a dog’s tail, the Congress has reduced this campaign to a slugfest.”
