The Congress Party on Monday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party over the rise in deaths due to mob lynching across the nation. Addressing a Press Conference, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari accused Prime Minister Modi and BJP of playing the politics of fear and hatred.

“Till now BJP cadres were involved in spreading violence and hatred. At times some of their MP’s also gave statements of hatred. But now it has reached their cabinet as well. Now ministers are seen garlanding (lynching accused). This has led to a two-fold rise in mob-lynching.” Tiwari said.

“Isn’t the silence of the Prime Minister over these issues giving increase to such incidents? Ministers are felicitating convicted criminals; what is this if not an act of encouragement?” he asked.

Tiwari condemned Union Minister Jayant Sinha for garlanding those convicted of Ramgarh lynching.

“The nation does expect a Minister who has taken an oath of the constitution to glorify culprits.  This is an insult of the constitution and the judiciary.” He said.

Tiwari accused the BJP of giving tactic support to those accused and convicted of grave crimes. Apart from Jayant Sinha, he cited the example of MoS MSME Giriraj Singh’s jail visit to the accused in a case of inciting communal violence and MoS Culture & Environment, Dr Mahesh Sharma visiting the accused of Dadri Mob lynching and supporting the draping of the coffin of one of the accused with Tri-color.

Tiwari said that the government, instead of holding themselves responsible and accountable, had totally absolved itself by putting the blame on social media platforms for their own misdeeds.
