Bihar Journalist Pankaj Mishra Shot At In Arwa, Condition Critical

Days after the death of senior Kannad journalist Gauri Lankesh, another journalist in Bihar's Arwa District, Pankaj Mishra has been shot at by bike-borne assailants on Thursday, while he hasn't been declared dead yet, his situation is critical at the time.

According to reports, Mishra was attacked while he was going home from a bank. He was shot twice in the back by bike assailant and fell on to the ground on spot. While the onlookers rushed the journalist to the nearest hospital, his condition is still critical.

The people also informed Mishra's family of the shooting.

After not showing any signs of improvement, Mishra has been shifted to Patna hospital for better treatment.

Arwal Superintendent of Police, Dilip Kumar said, "Pankaj Mishra was shot by two people from his village. Mishra was leaving the bank with Rs 1 lakh cash which was robbed by them...One accused who shot journalist Pankaj Mishra has been arrested. It is a case of personal enmity."

Earlier, Karnataka senior journalist and social activist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead outside her house in Bengaluru on Tuesday, which had sparked a nationwide anger against free speech being strangled.

According to reports, the 55-year old journalist was shot dead from a close range at her house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar around 8 p.m as she was entering her house.
